
When Did “Clean” Label Start?
The movement began in the late 1990s, driven largely by consumer concerns over genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Over time, this desire for “cleaner” foods expanded into a push for removing artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, E-numbers, and other synthetic ingredients.
But today, it is now part of a larger shift toward clean eating and clean living, where health, nutrition, and environmental awareness all play a role in purchase decisions.
